Build Energy have been appointed by Mildren Construction to deliver energy and sustainability services and consultancy for their client W&S Recycling.
The scheme consists of a new warehouse and office development in Poole, Dorset.
The client and architects Symmetry Architecture are navigating the design stage certification process in order to meet a planning requirement for BREEAM Very Good. Our team has been busy producing design stage energy modelling, thermal comfort assessment and an indoor air quality plan.
Our BREEAM assessor Alison was down on site in September to meet the team face to face, and to run through the assessment and carry out the first AP (Advisory Professional) site visits. See photos below of how work on site is progressing.
The as-designed SBEM has shown significant improvement over Part L Building Regs to achieve four Ene 01 credits with low U values, an air tightness strategy and efficient building services. A VRF system providing heating and cooling also mean that the two credits under Hea 04 for thermal comfort have been achieved, including the design for future thermal comfort using the future weather data files.
We’ll also be carrying out air tightness testing, indoor air quality testing and a thermographic survey at the end of the project.
Other sustainability and wellbeing measures included in the building:
· Outdoor space for building users with seating and soft landscaping
· EV chargers
· Car sharing group and priority parking spaces
· Rainwater harvesting for vehicle wash
· All heating and hot water provided by electricity
